Microsoft Game Studios shake-up: Fries position officially filled

All-change at Microsoft as new top-dog appointments are made in its games division
A number of new executive appointments in Microsoft's games division, Microsoft Game Studios (MGS), have been announced today by Microsoft senior vice president and head of the company's Home and Entertainment Division Robbie Bach.

Microsoft's new appointments affect currently acting general manager of Microsoft Game Studios Shane Kim, corporate vice president Peter Moore and corporate vice president Mitchell Koch.

Kim, who has been filling in for ex-general manager of MGS Ed Fries following his surprise departure in January this year, has been named permanently to that position.

Reporting to Peter Moore, Kim will continue in his responsibility for content planning and development management of games for Xbox, Xbox Live and Windows, including the overall supervision of a number of dev studios.

Peter Moore has been named head of worldwide content and marketing for Microsoft games and game products "to create additional synergies between game content and marketing", according to the company.

In this new capacity, Moore assumes strategic responsibility for worldwide marketing and content, including games development in MGS as well as third-party relationships with games publishers and developers around the globe.

Mitchell Koch is to lead Microsoft's global retail sales effort, assuming worldwide retail sales responsibility across Microsoft's range of consumer products.

Peter Moore and Mitchell Koch join and executive team that includes corporate vice president of the Xbox platform J Allard and corporate vice president of finance and business development Bryan Lee.

According to Robbie Bach, the team comprises of a leadership structure that will focus on building on an integrated strategy for continued growth in the gaming and retail arenas.
