Downloadable NeoGeo classics on PS3 but not 360?

SNK classics get green light from Sony to serve up NeoGeo classics via PlayStation Store but there's no word from Microsoft on Live Arcade
Fans of SNK classics such as King of Fighters would love to see a selection of the firm's classic Neo-Geo titles available to download on Sony's PlayStation Store and Xbox Live Arcade.

We've all seen how well Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting recently did on Xbox Live and the call's already been made for more retro fighters to be released.

Speaking to CVG Soichiro Hosoya, director of SNK game titles, said, "We've discussed an online delivery service for our classic NeoGeo titles through next-gen formats and Sony Computer Entertainment has agreed to our propositions." All good then in the world of PlayStation, though what the games will be and when they'll launch haven yet to be confirmed.

But the firm has yet to hear back from Microsoft about the possibility of the games heading to Xbox Live Arcade. "We've been sending our propositions to Microsoft for a while, but it will depend on their policy for the Xbox Live Arcade," continued Hosoya. "Of course, we wish to launch our NeoGeo titles through Xbox Live Arcade but we cannot tell whether they'll accept our offer or not at present."

Come on Microsoft, wasn't there a story going round recently about how Ken Kutaragi dragging his feet?

Sine when are MS dragging their feet on this SNK already shown Fatal fury special for live arcade!

Sony most likely said yes to their terms without looking at them much because lets face it going up against live with their weak online service they need all the help they can get.

I would love Top players golf. Stick in 2 player online play and video camera support and it would lick ass.

So much for all that bitching from the Sony camp about XBLA only offering old games, bunch of hypocrites.

didn't they already announce Metal Slug on LIVE at TGS?

The problem facing Microsoft is its current cap of 50mb in size for Live Arcade titles. Some can be done in under 50mb, but the majority of NeoGeo games would weigh in over 50mb, a cap which Sony doesn't impose.

I would summise that most Neogeo games could be compressed below the 50meg cap lets face it some of the older ones can be downloaded on emulation at less than 50meg I do not think it would that hard to compress them down with todays software.

Not really that bothered about neogeo games I have most of them through a little piece of software on my Xbox anyways. Cool

Come on, this is really no great deal. Who buys a nex-gen consoles to play previous gen games?

I bought SF2 on live when it came out. I would never in a million years bought it if I knew how laggy online play was.

I dont mind buying some old games via Live Arcade/VC. But at the current rip off prices I might just consider going "elsewhere" for my old skool gaming fix.

It is common knowledge that SNK has publicly announced Fatal Fury Special and Metal Slug for the Xbox Live Arcade. Those are Neo Geo games.

The way the rumors have been up to this point, SNK is going to have a Neo Geo "Genre" all to itself on the Xbox Live Arcade.

I know for a fact that SNK Playmore President, Ben Herman, has said that he did not like the 50MB size limit that Microsoft places on Xbox Live Arcade games, mainly because some of the Neo Geo games were several hundred MB in size. The Neo Geo actually has a limit of 330MB in size, but later in the systems life they found ways to increase that size even higher...

However, it is very important to note that SNK's Neo Geo system did NOT use any form of compression. That is the reason why games that were over 100MB in size on the Neo Geo could end up being ported to the Super Nintendo using only 24MB on a Super Nintendo cartridge. Compression technology has advanced a LOT since then, which means that MANY Neo Geo games can be put on Xbox Live using less than 50MB.

For example, there are lots of Neo Geo games that are only 46MB in size on the Neo Geo. Magician Lord, Nam 1974, Cyber Lip, Ninja Combat, and others are only 46MB. Baseball Stars Professional is only 50MB. King of the Monsters is 55MB, and it was only 8MB on the Super Nintendo, so it should easily be able to be ported to Xbox Live Arcade.

Microsoft, if you can hear this, please put this rumor in the garbage can!

Microsoft employees, let's make sure that you do NOT end up with a reputation like Sony employees who are SLOOOOOOOOOW in working with third parties in order to get the games people want.

DO WHAT IT TAKES to get ALL of the Neo Geo games on Xbox Live Arcade!!!

And make sure they are inexpensive...otherwise, I will just use my MAME arcade emulator and play all of them for free on my PC.

yeah, but the compression on SNES was done by removing a lot of animation frames, reducing graphic resolution and downgrading sound quality.
If I'm going to play a classic, I want the real thing
