Kuju is promising to set new high standards in the first-person genre with its new Unreal Engine 3 shooter, To End all Wars, in development for 360 and PS3 and due to release in summer 2008.
It's to World War I we go, this game set in the war-torn trenches of Europe, and Kuju hopes to put together the most accurate recreation of the conflict ever.
"The authenticity of the conflict has been put at the heart of the project. Period locations will be recreated in lavish detail, only weaponry of the time will be available and character design will reflect the uniforms and style of the era" explains Ghostlight, the publisher.
"The FPS genre is a competitive market, however we believe that To End All Wars will be an exceptional title that will form the basis of a new gaming franchise," adds Ghostlight director, Khaled Lababedi.
Ghostlight hopes that To End all Wars will be one of the key titles to help in "its stated objective of becoming a major global publisher." It had better be bloody good, then.
Yes, it had better be bloody good, because we're not exactly short on WW2 shooters, are we? Like mini-games on Wii, these are springing up every month.
And following up Call of Duty and Medal of Honor, this has some seriously big steel-capped boots to fill.

Don't really see how this in itself justifies comments about 'putting together the most accurate recreation of the conflict ever' - I mean, these are the basics, right?

the guns in world war one aren't that good and how can it end all wars when there was a second world war hmmmmmm
you sir, are an imbecile. The guns used in WWI were fundamentally the same as those used in WWII. WWI also spelt the end of major land wars between empires.
Oh, my bad. That'll teach me to try and read stuff without my glasses
WWI is alright. The fighting was an awful lot more face to face then, and if they can get across the intense atmosphere in the trenches that'd be well scary.
I applaud the devs for tackling WWI as it has scarcely been touched, especially by the FPS genre.
However, I just hope that if the game proves to be successful, we don't see a plethora of WWI games suddenly flooding the market. Any devs/publishers that do this deserve to be NUKED! If you have no creativity - DON'T OPERATE IN A CREATIVE INDUSTRY YOU f**king PARASITES!
old war games in general are becoming more and more frequent, fair enough its a WW1 game but its the same old scenes different day plus the weapons and scenery are so bland and boring, i think devs should be focusing on newer stuff like the way HAZE is or the new call of duty

If you re-read what i said you'll see that i never said they were very different i said theyre not as good so if youre arguing with that you're saying the weapons had similar power (its like me saying the weapons in the first gulf war are the same as the ones in the second gulf war)
in WWI machine guns were thought of as weapons of mass destruction

Very interested in this. WWI weapons were a bit more basic than their WWII equivalents (most rifles were bolt-action, no assault rifles and no SMGs).
Should make for interesting gameplay. Hopefully it will be realistic in that one bullet will kill your enemy, not like most WWII games were you need a 30 round clip to kill someone
So if they make it realistic, this should be very good. Limiting the amount of bullets and weapons you can carry could really focus the game, much in the same way that Halo did by only letting you carry two guns at once. Wouldn't it be cool if you could only carry 40 or 50 bullets for your rifle, and you had to make each one count? No more firing two hundred rounds at one guy then.....
Less is more as they say.
I'll endorse that. Plus make it a very good story (a la Half life) and do not demonise the enemy. Plus you've got to have the football match in no-man's land.....there won't be a dry eye in the room
An acreate recreation of WW1 would not make a very interesting game, Bolt action rifles, stationary machine guns and static trench warfare. Maybe the game has you sat in a fox hole for four days before your forced at gunpoint to try and achieve an impossible objective.
All this world war FPS bashing is beginnign to peev me slightly. WW1 and 2 were two of mankinds greatest disaters in history, and make fantastic immersive settings for a game.
What I DO agree with is the forumla these games tend to adopt is beaten to death...generally they copy the movies and band of brothers.
I dont see many of you complaining about "another fantasy RPG" which I think is a lot more stereotypical than a WW setting...
WW1 many FPS developers have dismissed in the past because there was no flanking tactics, and there was a distinct focus on artillery rather than personal weaponry. The machine gun without a doubt was the biggest killer next to artillery, and the tactics involved many artillery barrages, followed by "going over the top", and then quite often being mowed down by heavy machine gun fire....oh and then theres the gas...
I think lack of weaponry is fine, if they concentrate on other elements of gameplay such as RPG elements, and imo they will HAVE to do this to keep peoples interest.
WW1 was a VERY different war to WW2, many brits came back from fighting to find a coutry that didn't want to know, it was an international disgrace. And this time the yanks didn't bale us out either...they actually extended the war by another year at least, and another million or so deaths.
It wasn't known as the Great war for no reason..Please don't cheapen this moniker by making a standard FPS,,,take a leaf from theBioshock house and include immersion such as trench-foot, trench -fever, three strikes and out features..this could potentially outsmart most WW2 shooters if executed properly....however, being the bloodiest and most futile (trench warfare) war to date, shouldn't we leave the memory of many lost forefathers, respectfully in peace..?????
I'm the kinda person who likes a good FPS and a good third person shooter. I would like to see a game that gives you a choice between third person and first person, so as to attract more people. And good on them for trying a WWI shooter! My mates and I spent a month brain torming cool ideas for a WWI shooter, and came up with some pretty kool stuff!
