PS3 1.92 firmware out

Improved web browser, flash wallpapers and better PS1/PS2 support in latest firmware update
Sony, those sly devils, have sneaked out latest PlayStation firmware update which changes... erm, we don't quite know.

The chaps at NeoGAF however point out an improved internet browser, mini-clips in the video section, auto-power-off for controllers, improved PS1 and PS2 support and the abilitiy to use Flash wallpapers on the XMB - so finally someone might be able to come up with something pretty enough to consider replacing the default background.

Sony's yet to offer an official change log for the firmware but rest assured - we're on the case.

Does this mean that redtube will work in the browser now? Laughing

There is a rumour that this firmware also fixes the Warhawk ranking system problem?

Well its good that it'll automatically shutdown the controllers. Now maybe I don't to plug them in as often everything my flatmate forgets to turn it off.

Hold it shouldn't there be some t**tty 360 fanboys slagging this off by now, where are they?

Flash backgrounds should be good...any idea where to download them?

Mini Clips for videos have been a long time coming...I remember seeing them way back before the PS3 launch when Phil Harrison was doing a demo.

Great news on the automatic shutdown of the controller, I suspect after a time of inactivity...

All in all from the news of features included, a nice .02 update. Smile

Good news on the flash wallpapers! I've been making flash wallpapers for my nokia 6233 for a while now.

Anyone know what size they should be created at for the PS3? My guess would be 1650 x 1050 or something like that.

Wouldn't you just design it for the resolution of your tv? say 1280x720 or 1920x1080, whichever your console is set to.

Turns out none of the stuff mentioned is in the update. It does pretty much nothing. Here's the official word from Sony.

Playability

Playability status with the PS3TM system has changed for some PLAYSTATION®3 format titles*.

* This does not affect titles in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Oceania.

The hell is that supposed to mean??

No Problem someone said thats good that it'll automatically shutdown the controllers. Now maybe I don't to plug them in as often everything my flatmate forgets to turn it off.

The 360 pad has been able to do this for ages.
steve w on 4 Sep '07
Cool I am going to update it.

Just because someone slags something off, doesn't mean they are a fanboy. They might just not agree with it.

CVG is populated by the same fanboy's that always post negative comments about their rival consoles. Xbox 360 news is usually populated with negative comments from the same Sony fanboys.

No major changes with this one that I can notice. But then again maybe some of the changes are underlying fixes. I'm crying out for better bluetooth headset support for example, maybe they put that in.

Does anyone else think that the 2.0 firmware might well include Playstation Home?

Now all they need to do is update the bloody BC site. http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc/bcGames.htm;ZSESSIONID=Gd7JzhhPX6JWtC7L4JQdzzhB9yp5n27CpcJGTkDZgQVskZsGV5nh!294199817?locale=en_GB
