Sega dropped support for Dreamcast only last year, so you've got to hand to Nintendo's little fella, who's has a bloody good run to have kept going this long.
The report, spotted by Arcade Renaissance, is also saying that Nintendo will begin winding down support for the Super Nintendo (Super Famicom), Nintendo 64, Gameboy, and Gameboy Pocket lines in the future.
Quite what the word 'support' actually means in this instance, we don't know as nothing's come forward from Nintendo itself. If you've got a Wii you'll still be able to get your old school fix of Nintendo gaming via the Virtual Console releases.
But you'll have to treat your retro consoles with extra care from now on (Mike), as Nintendo isn't going to repair them for you or make fresh, new ones...
By western standards it does seem strange, but if im correct every famicom had a 20 year service support which is now at an end. This is a good reason why japan still can sell factory grade famicoms and other systems
Still supporting their older hardware eh? I plugged in my SNES for plops and giggles around 2 weeks ago and it doesn't work anymore. I wonder should I send it to them while I still have the chance... probably not considering it will probably just spend another 7 years in a box under my bed with all my other retro consoles. Might just throw hammers at it.
ooeerr. what kind of 'support' do they mean? because i'm sure alot of people think that once the 1 year warranty is up, that's it! if you want your system repaired you have to go to an independent dealer or buy a new one. unless your Microsoft, then you have no choice but to extend you warranty to a century or so
*looks at 360, i love you really... please don't break!*
Wow, didn't know it was still supported, but I guess it means that their service centre won't repair them for much longer. My SNES still works and is seeing quite a lot of use at the mo, in fact all the pads work, the games all work (battery backup included) so that's not a worry, need to get my N64 pads fixed before they stop doing that though, the analogue sticks are so loose they're almost useless.
As the others have said wow. But also amazed they managed to keep it quiet! Thats good PR from nintendo stop the support of an ancient system and make a fairly large annoucment when you do so. Despite nobody knowing they still did.
Hope they support my gamecube for 20 years I would guess it will last longer than my 360 will.

A gamecube could survive nuclear war, hell mine has melted when i left it mere milimetres from a stupidly hot lamp and it's still going strong
The NES was a fantastic machine back in the day (even though I had an SMS).
I saw one in my local retro gaming store the other day. Ah the memories of pressing the power button about 20 times and blowing the cartridge for the thing to start
Heh, what exactly do they mean with "support" though? I didn't even know the NES was still being supported this whole time...thats like people still using Windows 1.0 or something
