"Soon, one answer will over ride all others. Who we are is but a stopping stone to what we can become..."
First word on Deus Ex 3 hit back in May this year when the director of Eidos France revealed in a TV interview that the company was working on a third title in Warren Spector's critically-acclaimed Deus Ex universe.
Ion Storm's original Deus Ex is regarded as one of - if not the (it was voted best PC game of all time by PC Zone magazine) - finest PC games ever made. It rightly received a heap of plaudits when it released in 2000, and boasted an engrossing, twisting plot.
It combined FPS and deep RPG gameplay and dropped the amalgam of the gaming genres into a cyberpunk-esque world where cyber-enhanced secret agent JC Denton was on the trail of death-dealing terrorists.
The sequel, Deus Ex: Invisible War, never quite lived up to expectations.
As for Deus Ex 3, well, we're hanging around for details. Eidos Montreal's website says the studio is developing games for Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and Wii, but whether the third game will appear on all four platforms we'll have to wait and see.
ARghhhh IW wasn't that bad! People just looked at it, saw it wasn't identical to the first one and dimissed it. I thought it was a great game in it's own right.
I also thought Deadly Shadows was the best Thief in the series, and people blasted it because there was an optional third person view, but hey!
yer i didnt mind the 2nd one wasnt a bad game, it was just buggy as hell and really wasnt deus ex. well heres hoping they dont c**k it up as id love to see a sequel.
OMG ... Deus Ex 3? ... if they get this right I will worship at their feets. And yeah IW wasn't so bad, it was just a huge disappointment as it wasn't even in the same class as the original, a bit like Unreal2.
Do you know that Deus Ex Invisible War STILL isn't on the Backwards Compatibility List for Xbox 360? Even though Thief 3 is?
I really hope Eidos takes a long hard look at what went wrong with IW and delivers the game we all want. And I hope they hire a few people from Ion Storm too.
Not tryna offend the console users here, but I wish they'd just develop this for the PC.
The sequel was dumbed down for consoles and I just see that happening here.
I honestly hope it isn't, but I've just got this nagging feeling it will be.
It will be on console! You will recognise the supreme power of the PS3 and 360!
*Homer Simpsons Voice* Recccccoooognniiiseee it!!
No dammit!!
*stamps feet*
I WANT IT ALL TO MYSELF ON MY PC !!! ME ME ME !!!
Ok. I'll accept it being on the consoles on one condition. If it's s**te I'm allowed to hunt down the people responsible and throw them off the top of a high building - sans nano technology
Innovation is what made Deus Ex so critically acclaimed, if it gets solely released on the higher spec platforms what's to stop it from becoming identical to Bioshock, for instance.

Indeed, Nintendo really missed the boat not releasing Bioshock's Plasmid Panic Party!!

Oh happy days, best news of the year so far for me personally. Heres' hoping that it owes more to the first game rather than the ok but not near as good invisible war.
I guess I was alone with the fact I actually liked IW... I thought it had one of the most involving plots in a FPS for its time and the gameplay elements were quite cool. Still, it didn't touch the original but then again, not many games ever do...
Deus Ex was a game I really wanted to love. Had heard such good things about it but coming to it late (about 3 years or so after its release) it seemed to have dated quite badly. And coming to it as an FPS fan rather than an RPG fan I felt the shooting side of the game left a lot to be desired. Which is why 2 was such a big disappointment for me. I hoped it would bring the intelligent plot and writing of the original, the freedom to achieve the mission in multiple ways, all of the things Deus Ex was well known for whilst also updating the fundamental gameplay aspects. It didn't really achieve on any of these accounts. That's why I have to disagree with you seeing it wasn't as bad as everyone said... it really was (remember not huge fan of original saying this.) When I initially played it I had similar feelings to you but tried playing it again and realised just weak the gameplay was. Deus Ex went from being regarded as one of the greatest games ever made to feeling like some sort of budget title.
I went on to Gametrailers.com earlier by chance and saw the teaser on the frontpage - this could go either way. If only we were surprisingly told that Junction Point were developing it...
they only mentioned 4 platforms, 360, ps3, pc, and wii. what about the the ps2! usually if a multi platform game is developed they make one version for the high end spec pc, 360, ps3, and another for version for the ps2 and wii. however the wii version is usually £10 more than the the ps2 version because they have to port it, and add motion controls to it!

And what about the Spectrum 48K version? WHERE IS THAT? EH?
I'm trying not to get too excited about what will probably be another inferior sequel but I don't think it's working. I'll probably end up telling everyone I know, whether they care or not.
Deus Ex was so brilliant it deserves another chance at having a true sequel. IW was okay but that's all it was, I think it was dumbed down for the console market too much.
On the plus side, Dentons Pony Parlour sounds awesome. I can't wait to biomod those ponies.
*calls everyone he knows to tell them about Deus Ex 3*
oh yes.finally just need to finish number 2 and i'll be all good fantastic stuff.please can they do it justice. all i want is for this to expand and improve on the brilliance of the first in terms of story and characterisation whilst maintaining freedom and possibly better augs and melee weapons.
yes it could be...shame it'll be crap (also resident evil 5 will come out )
deus ex was so acclaimed because it innovated and played in ways games never had before. now that its done all the time it wont be as impacting or as good as the original.

It's not really done all the time now though is it? There was a thread a while back about games similar to Deus Ex and there aren't that many.
We have sandbox games these days but they seem to be very simplistic beaneath the surface eg Crackdown. Then you have your linear games liek Half Life 2 and GOW.
Bioshock was touted as givingt he player lots of freedome but it really only gave you freedom in how to despatch enemies (and I stuck to the same routine really)
There's definitely aarkets for RPGS with shooter elements and great stories, Mass effect for example.
This will NOT being coming out 2008. If it does, it'll be rushed and we don't want that. 2009 minimum.

No, you're not the only one, but compared to the staggeringly better first game IW is nothing but a disappointment.
For example, the first level - the demo in fact - you could explore the whole gigantic area of Liberty Island, go right up the Statue of Liberty, tackle terrorists either by stealth or gunplay... You could storm the front, sneak in the back, get a passcode from an undercover agent, lead every terrorist into the UNATCO Bots patrolling the area... it was incredible. The sequel had nothing that stood up to that, even when they went back to Liberty Island!

The Russians are probably making it as we speak...
You think I'm kidding? Then check out their version of UFO: Enemy Unknown
Seriously though... I tried playing through IW twice and gave up in disgust both times. If nothing else the person responsible for the NPC animation should be hung drawn and quartered... I've definitely seen less stilted animation on the 48...
Here's hoping they take this seriously, though I'm not going to hold my breath (otherwise I'd probably die - I'm guessing this isn't out for a while?)

There is a similar, but more action packed alternative called Project Snowblind which may melt your butter. Considered by many to be a spin off of sorts and was decent enough. However, it's still nowhere near Deus EX 1. Can be had on Xbox or PS2 for bus fare these days.
Invisible War = Decent as a standalone game, puny compared to Deus Ex
Deus Ex 3 = The REAL Deus Ex 2
Tbh I think most of the true hardcore fans would be happy with a remake of Deus Ex with a few minor tweaks here and there, in the Unreal3 or Crysis enigine. I know I would.
I loved the original Deus Ex, it truely was one of the (if not the) best games ever.
But I don't have any hopes for DE3, not after Invisible War and the latest Thief games.
Deus Ex 3 will be "Generic Console Shooter Game #578", with minimal RPG elements and ported across systems and complete with all the bugs, glitches, and poor performance that entails.
I hope I'm wrong, I really do, but I don't see them putting out anything else but a crappy game on a valued IP.
