We were expecting some fairly bland images of cars on race courses, but instead Codemasters's latest racer bound for PS3, 360 and PC, will have you pulling nutty Fast and Furious-style drifts in city streets, as these sweet new screens show.
This is what we're all about - throwing the car's rear end out and powering round corners sideways while the screeching tyres kick up ludicrous amounts of smoke, just inches from the car in front. It looks like a more realistic Ridge Racer game.
The detail in the city environments looks brilliant and check out that motion blur.
Race Driver Grid, as it's now officially called, runs on the same engine as the stunning-looking Colin McRae Dirt, which should make for a pretty impressive damage system and some really nice lighting.
Also like in Dirt, Codemasters promises that Race Driver will pack a great variety of race types, including circuit and city racing in real-life settings, drift racing and illegal street racing in Japan.
Looks brill, as long as we don't see bikes and cars thrown into races together.
crap........why cant it be like toca 2, a track racing game, dont need another street racer game, i want a decent sim game game for a console, looks like ferrari challenge PS3 is my only hope & maybe GTR if it ever comes out on 360
I'm sure with NFS and PGR the world was crying out for another drifting game.
If it's all about drifting, it really shouldn't have the word 'race' in the title - the two are not the same.
If you read the full article there is a mix of racing, which includes circuit and city racing in real-life settings, drift racing and illegal street racing in Japan.
Looks really nice, I'm impressed. Could be PC screens but still a good looking game to say the least.
I have Toca Race Driver 3 for PS2. Despite there being 'Toca' in the name, it was one of the few motorsports not in the game. There was german touring car, NASCAR, Monster trucks, Baja buggies, Clio racing, Caterham racing, even truck racing (which was actually a lot of fun). What was great about that game was the variety in racing you got in the game. There was even 70's american muscle races.
Despite this, the game had a distinctly British feel. There were plenty of circuits like Brands Hatch and Castle coombe. I'm concerned that this new version of the series may alienate the european fans.

couldnt agree more. why ruin a great game imitating need for speed.
Aww..now I'm gutted. I was really looking forward to TOCA 4 but it looks like they've turned it into yet another street racer...like the world needs another one of those.
It's not another street racer it's not al about the drifting.
The game is more like GPR4 with street track, famous race track (ie, Le Mans) and over in Japan drift street racing. So only one part of this game has the drift factor.
