A world exclusive in the latest issue of UK magazine, GamesMaster, reveals the first info on a new - as yet to be officially titled - Doctor Who game from Eidos that mixes the characters of the UK's long-running TV sci-fi series with stat-battling card game, Top Trumps.
The game is scheduled for release next spring for DS, PC and PS2.
Up to two players will be able to enter deck battles as the latest Doctor Who, with additional characters - including Martha Jones and Captain Jack - becoming available as play progresses. Each character has their own special ability - the Doctor, for example, can sneak a look at his opponent's cards by bending time.
The game borrows its visual style from the cartoon Doctor Who series, The Infinite Quest, with animation studio Firestep apparently working closely with developer Ironstone to achieve a vibrant look for the game.
This definitely seems like it'll be a title that only dedicated Doctor fans will really get excited about, although given that over 650,000 Dr Who Top Trump packs have already been sold there are certainly a few Time Lord loons around.
You can read more about the Doctor Who Top Trumps game in the January 2008 issue of GamesMaster, which is in shops tomorrow.
The potential in dollars for this license is massive, and what with the BBC successfully exporting it all over the globe then this is a "cash-cow" in the waiting....but the fat ho in the "Lair" advert is grinding beyond belief, statics are cool, this is just upsetting!!
Listen, these are the guys you want. They make exactly the type of game (in fact the only type of game) Doctor Who would do well in, they make that type of game well, and they're British. Give them a call, I'm sure they're fans too.
Now if I see Doctor Who Monopoly clogging up next year's DS charts I will be seriously p***ed off.
Damn I was quite interested when I seen there was gonna be a doctor who game but now I see its gonna be one of those last gen casual games and whats worse its a virtual top trumps game why would you play virtual top trumps when you can play it for real much cheaper.
I love Dr Who, but this is taking the p**s, seriously. What the hell are the BBC thinking? First they try and hire lilly allen as an assistant and now this.
Where did you read that? Doesn't sound very likeley TBH, I think they'd want a serious actor in the role after Tennant and Ecclestone. Bear in mind thaat before Ecclestone was revealed as the doctor one of the tabloids weas speculating that PAUL FRICKIN' DANIELS would play him, I dont tend to set too much stock in those sort of rumours.
And the game... well it's cashcowtastic, isn't it?

They were talking about it on the radio this morning, but I searched for 'Dr Who Jennifer Saunders' in google and this was the first return.
It could be, and probably is tabloid BS, but it's worrying nevertheless. Don't like Jennifer Saunders at the best of times.
Searching Google... now whay didn't I think of that? The Jennifer Saunders thing is rumoured to be a one-off special, if it even exists.
James Nesbitt is the widely pegged as the favourite to permanately replace David, with Welshman Rhys Ifans also rumoured to be in contention for the part.
Jennifer Saunders already played the Doctor in a sketch, years ago ... this is the origin of the rumor ... typical misinformed clowns.
And, Arrabella Weir ... from the Fast Show ... played the Doctor as part of the Doctor Who Unbound audio series.
David Tennant will be Doctor til at least 2010, as he has signed for the 2009 feature-lengths ... there will be no normal series during 2009, just an undisclosed number of feature-length 'seasonal specials', for several reasons, not least of which David will be on stage in Hamlet for a large period of what would be the normal DW filming period for that series ... ie, the end of this year ... and for the 2010 series, which wil be a normal 13 episode run.
He is also reported to be furious at Catherine Tate for her out-right lie about him leaving DW on the Johnathan Ross show.
