Turning Point developer Spark Unlimited has taken time out of polishing Turning Point: Fall of Liberty to ease our minds that the game might not be up there with COD4.
You can see us playing the demo in question right here, which - as we said - features a few dodgy glitches that we certainly hope will be ironed out before release. The response, via an IGN Blog, reads:
Our Response to Player Feedback on the Turning Point Xbox 360 Demo We just wanted to take a moment to personally thank everyone who took the time to download the Turning Point: Fall of Liberty demo and to comment on our work in progress. All of your feedback is very valuable to us and we are working hard to meet your expectations with the final version of the game.
Since the demo was finalized, the team has put several months of work into the code and we thought you might like to know that a number of questions raised by those trying the demo will be positively addressed in the final game.
For example:
Optimized targeting and movement: Optional control settings have been refined to alleviate sluggishness in the slowest setting and the 'on ice' feeling at the faster settings. Also, a user-defined soft lock has been added which means that controls can be set so once an enemy is hit with a bullet the crosshair will 'stick' to the target.
Refined AI behavior: The dynamic intelligence and pathfinding for enemies has also been enhanced. The 'hot point' based system should add to Turning Point's replay experience.
Ammo levels and grappling optimized: Up until final submissions, the team has been listening to playtest feedback and doing everything possible to create a 'civilian at war' feeling. The end result is an experience more visceral than the demo, relying less on repeated ammo refills, and more on the grappling and the hand-to-hand combat.
Final Mip-mapping and texture levels: The art team has also been able to further optimize lighting, textures, and effects throughout the title.
Again, thank you for all your feedback and support as we finalize Turning Point: Fall of Liberty and continue to do everything possible to deliver on our goal of creating a fantastic and entertaining experience for you.
too late mate! this was just awful. i had to turn the thing off when i realised i was shooting at a virtually static enemy. and talk about guide you through. a small brick would stop you going anywhere the programmers did not want you to go. i will, honestly, never look at this game again. did anybody look down at the street from atop? pitiful where do i send my comments to the people that are creating this drivel?
is it that bad? i thought it looked generic but interesting from the preview on gamertv. I commend that theyre working on improving it as most devs churn out a crap demo, then throw out a bug ridden trash game and expect people to buy it
Someone should tell the developer that you cant polish a turd. I wont be buying this on release, which is a shame because the basic idea is pretty cool. Im shocked they actually released the in this awful state. WTF where they thinking?!
I will still be checking the final game out, Demo's don't always tell the full story, and because they are developed as a game in their own entity they can sometimes show the game in a bad light. Waiting on the CVG review.
I personally don't have time for games like this, and I've never even played the demo. You can get so saturated with shooting games that I personally only by a handful, and they have to be the very best. Halo 3, COD4, GRAW and R6. It would have to be something insanely special to make me buy it.
Well they are not known for their FPSs so I'll cut them some slack. But if you plan on releasing an FPS in this FPS saturated market you'd better spend the time getting it right. I don't see it happening for this game unless they pull it and spend 6 months redoing it. You shoot a guy and it takes about 1/2 a second for his helmet to fly off, very bad. It needs to be pretty damn good just for me to keep a demo on my tiny 20gig HD. This demo was off in about 15 minutes.
if i could give one piece of feedback, it would be to not use such infuriating advertising via pop-ups, i wouldnt care if the game was even better than cod4, i simply wouldnt buy it due to the advertising pop-ups they used p*ssing me off so much.
Glad it wasn't just me. The Demo was pathetic, I switched it off half way through when I realised that no matter how hard I tried, lining up the crosshair perfectly against an enemy was fruitless.
As if the aiming and collision detection wasn't bad enough. Your player felt like they were moving through treacle, it just feels unbelievably sluggish.
Some bad level design is also very, very apparent. The most prominent of which being a pipe section where you have to hang on a pipe and climb across. During this time which takes about 10 seconds to complete, you are being shot from around a corner. The enemies are completely out of view due to the edge of a building and a fence below, which means that you can't kill them before you climb across the pipe as they don't appear until you start the pipe hanging operation.
Awful, awful, awful. Did I tell you how awful this demo was yet? It's games like this that make you understand why FPS games like Halo and Call of Duty get so much praise.
At least they are trying to do something different with the WWII shooter and at least they're taking the criticisms on board. Maybe you should cut them some slack until the final game is released?
Nice idea for a game, but a shame it's let down by a very poor structure, as you can only go where the game wants you to go, it might as well be one of those on rails shooters where all you do is aim.
Was expecting a lot more from this game, sadly I'll not give it another look now.

That's what I was thinking. Unless this game was a total gem, I wouldn't buy it purely cos those damn ads on this site p**sed me off to such an extent. Talk about intrusive, viral advertising... Yeesh.

hence my 'screw you codemasters' coment on all their news stories.
They impressed me with there attitude to feedback though. So 'SCREW YOU CRITERION' instead
