Mario Kart Wii coming to Europe on April 11

Confirmed by Nintendo!
Nintendo has just confirmed that highly anticipated title Mario Kart Wii will reach European shores on April 11.

The game is bundled with the Wii Wheel, but provides five different control options for players: the Wii Wheel, Wii Remote turned on its side, Wii Remote and Nunchuk combination, Classic Controller and even Nintendo GameCube controller.

Sixteen new tracks will be included, in addition to sixteen other tracks from previous Mario Kart games. We're preying one of those isn't Baby Park.

Multiplayer mode includes four-player local racing and eleven-player support using Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection service. Ten battle arenas will also be available.

In addition, a new Wii Channel will be launched alongside the game - the Mario Kart Channel. Players will be able to monitor their ranking against other players, as well as access and share Ghost Data with each other.

The Channel will also allow players to jump into friend's races, even if they're in progress, or simply be a spectator. Even better, Nintendo has hinted that it will run special events through the service.

UPDATE: Nintendo has just thrown screenshots of what seems to be the entire game at us (178 of them!) Enjoy.

Isn't that Playstations tag line? Or Halos *shrug*

11th April... Wow, sooner than I thought. Good to see all those control methods too. A solid move on Nintys behalf.

Good news indeed! Can't wait for this game.

It's a shame Brawl can't follow suit really. Why must Nintendo be so random in their release scheduling?
jonny_hermit on 20 Feb '08
With so many great games being released in April, looks like I'll be living on Pot Noodles with the amount of cash I'll be spending! Smile

Baby Park was awesome hectic fun! Just like all aspects of Double Dash, the series outcast.

Anyway, wow this is a surprise. Loving the Gamecube pad compatibility. Means I don't need to buy any new Wiimotes or Whiils, and also more importantly that I will never be forced to play it using motion control.

I'm looking forward to this. I'm anticipating Brawl quite a bit more, but this is a very good start. Nintendo's release dates are mad though... Smash Bros is out in Japan already, coming to the US soon, still no date for us... whereas Mario Kart just comes out of nowhere with April 11th confirmed! Shocked
falloutwarchief on 20 Feb '08
Brawl is June 6 for us apparently with No More Heroes out next week and Fire Emblem a week or so after which will now be followed by Mario Kart a few weeks after that.

Edit: Baby park was quite a fun stage imo because of all the utter chaos you'd see in that stage with shells flying here and there and all kinds of discarded items.
Izo on 20 Feb '08
but i want brawl now!

we better have some extra characters for all the extra waiting Wink

i liked baby park.. and mario kart double dash

maybe im just weird Confused

Agreed I thought it was a little bonkers too. We get near simultaneous release dates for MK but have to wait for brawl Confused still not complaining thats good news.

Times are good Very Happy That'd be their two main hitters out in first half of year. What are those sneaky swines up to later in the year....

Doesn't seem long ago since the DS version... or Gamecube version... or GBA version...
So can't muster any enthusiasm for yet another version of MK.
Wozzakl on 20 Feb '08
oh my f**king lordy, this is the best news going.
got no more heroes now, this in april and smash bros 2/3 months later, this is definitely an insanely great year for us ninty fans. i'm gonna go and jack off over this article now.
Sinthetic on 20 Feb '08
Yep, I am as happy as everybody else. Prepare to get shelled online, suckers! Very Happy
Mark240473 on 20 Feb '08
I still can't believe this is gonna be out before Brawl over here.

I'm also not quite sure whether I want it or not. I've always loved MK, but I only just got MKDS a few months ago and I don't know how different the content will be.

I guess time will tell.

F*cking wahay!!! Killer Wii app here we come!!!
ranaraptor on 20 Feb '08
Probably technically impossible but I'll ask anyway!

Can you have 1 player on the wii controller and another on the classic controller attached to the same wii controller?
jaycee900 on 20 Feb '08
Yipee!.
TheMullet3 on 20 Feb '08
The developement of this game seems to have been outwardly very unspoken... or is that just me?
I honestly expected to have to wait until about Q4 for a completed game!

Great news, but I would rather Brawl if I'm honest, especially with these dubious gameplay additions..
gothchild on 20 Feb '08
WOOO! Going to be great. Double Dash was disappoiting but it was still a great game. Hopefully this is as good as Mario Kart Ds which in my opinion is the best of the lot.

After the extreme character detail in Brawl, those screenshots look...

Well..

Oh, and new characters...

RumbleThunder on 20 Feb '08
three things:
1. This will be bloody brilliant
2. Why is there only two weeks between this and wii fit
3. What on earth happened? They're ds screenshots i swear
flametron on 20 Feb '08
i wonder if the shortcut over the wall is still available on n64 mario raceway? remember kids,'shrooms are good. bagsy koopa. fallout, baby park was mad with 4 players but 12 player baby park!? it'll be utter chaos. Very Happy
ste hicky on 20 Feb '08
I hope they have included Wario stadium from MK64 that was a great multiplayer track.

The addition of the different control methods is a very good idea on ninty's part as well.

Roll on April 11th

Agree completely. Screens look s**te. Each console Mario Kart is worse than the last. I hope this breaks that trend, but i doubt it. SNES one was the best by far.
Ryo_Hazuki4 on 21 Feb '08
No, sorry Nintendo, I think you misheard us. We asked you to get your European release schedules right for a change and to release Super Smash Bros Brawl, the most anticipated Wii release of the year, not too long after the American version.

What we didn't say was "can we have Mario Kart a couple of weeks earlier than the US, who will have been happily playing Brawl for a month? Oh, and while you're at it, can you make it the worst Mario Kart yet? Put motorbikes in it, rubbish graphics, no effort whatsoever? Thanks Nintendo!"

I normally would say 'I Love Mario Kart'. But frankly, I won't be getting this. I just don't care. I downloaded Mario Kart 64 and have Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. I don't need any more. If Nintendo bothered to market this one and gave us something to get excited about (clue: not motorbikes), like say, Sonic being a playable character, I'd care more. They didn't and I don't.

Okay, granted, Smash Bros Brawl isn't perfect. Apart from the p**sing annoying European release date, having 3 Fox Clones?! And not bothering to give Ganondorf his own move set? ROB the Robot and Wolf instead of Bowser Jnr, Ridley, Samurai Goro, Rayman, Pacman, Tails, and all the other potential candidates that everyone wanted?

That said, I still want Brawl about 50,000 times more than Mario Kart Wii. The clue's right there in the game's title guys - no imagination, no effort, nobody cares.
