We remember seeing the Sony London-developed 8 Days almost two years ago in a (blatantly pretend in-game CGI) trailer at E3 2006. We assumed it died, but reports say it's very much alive and well.
A new trailer along with gameplay demos are reported to have been showcased beind closed doors at last week's GDC.
Sony is yet to officially release any new details on the game, but according to reports, the whole game takes place over the course of eight days (makes sense). By the sounds of things, these eight days form a sort of time limit within which you must achieve your goals - almost like in Pikmin.
You'll travel across eight States of North America. This, as you might imagine, is said to make for one of the biggest game maps in any console game to date. So large, in fact, that you will never revisit any one location, and will be constantly pushed to move on.
It will also apparently incorporate Google Maps functionality, and tie into a real-life clock, so when played at night in real life, it will be night in the game.
You take control of one of two characters (possibly one of the two seen in the early trailer), each with their own storyline and varying abilities. One's a bad guy, who's out for revenge on a mob syndicate.
The other is a good guy - a detective who's in search of the same mob syndicat, who've kidnapped his son. Their paths, predictably, cross at some point, and they end up working together.
Reports speak highly of the game's visuals and animation, comparing it to Killzone 2 for graphical detail, and Uncharted for its impressive animation.
The game is being linked by some to the 'secret game' talked about recently, however that was apparently due in 2009. 8 Days is tipped for an October 2008 release with an official announcement to be made soon. Expect some sort of unveiling to take place in March.
I liked the look of this game way back so it'll be interesting to see what it's like now. Also the Über secret game will be Crash bandicoot with Lego style drop in drop out play.
Wow! It's SUPPOSED to be brilliant! It's SUPPOSED to look awesome! It's SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST THING IN THE HISTORY OF BEST THINGS EVER!!!
Ahem... excuse me. Less hype, more footage/screens please. I don't believe a word that comes from the chasm that is Sony's collective gob, until I see it.
Ok the trailer is great and the idea is great, but turning it into an actual playable game is something else totaly, Looks like its wort keep an eye on but not going to get excited been let down tomany time!! Plus the fact nothings been heard of it in so long either
Do we really need any more shooters with predictable storylines?
You did read the article, right?
Yes i did read the article it sounds like a shooting game with a good guy bad guy storyline.
Doesn't sound like a shooter to me, more action adventure if uncharted is being mentioned. I think you must be getting confused as it's the 360 that has more shooters, not the PS3.
Originally it was a 3rd person shooter and driving game, GTA style but with a different spin. That was two years ago though so things may have changed.
It is always fairly tiresome to see people trying to shoot down a game before all the information is out.
To be honest I think Sony's first party output is one of the few things which actually seems to be steadily improving this generation for the PS3. Surely again that only benefits gaming.
That said I think about Fable 2 every night before I go to bed :/ I want to send Peter little notes.

so to make an original story with shooting you have to take out good guys and bad guys? ok..... lets have some men sitting down at an office filling their tax returns. sound good to you?
pretty interesting concepts here; however, it's still rather scant on solid details. even still, Sony promised quite a bit with its E305 Motorstorm and Killzone 2 trailers, and for the most part they delivered quite impressively. i'm willing to give 8 Days the benefit of the doubt. however, Sony needs to show more of the game. along with Infamous, 8 Days could make it a duo of sleeper hits.
im psyched. its gonna be the first party sony made games that are really going to push the envelope for the ps3, at least for the near future. i bet its gonna rock. and andrew... you are a stick in the mud, maybe try parchisi.
