EA's PS3 software sales up 192%

PS3 topping an all-round year-on-year rise in net revenues
For Electronic Arts, PlayStation 3 software led the way in terms of net revenue growth during the company's fiscal Q4.

On a GAAP basis, EA's PS3 software net revenues were $152 million, a year-on-year increase of 192 percent during the quarter ended March 31, the firm said in its earnings report. Xbox 360 software sales grew 56 percent, reaching $128 million, while lower-priced Wii software grew 108 percent to $75 million.

PS2 revenues led the way with net revenues of $166 million, a 42 percent year-over-year increase (although PS2 software sales declined on a non-GAAP basis).

PSP software brought in net revenues of $69 million, a 77 percent increase, while Nintendo DS sales were up 33 percent to $36 million for the quarter.

Mobile game sales were $41 million, up 14 percent.

EA's top titles during fiscal 2008 were Rock Band, FIFA 08, Madden NFL 08, Need for Speed: ProStreet, The Simpsons Game, Tiger Woods PGA Golf 08, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, MySims, NBA Live 08 and Army of Two.

Maybe this is because EA own just about every publishing house and IP going...

*listens hard*

Is that the sound of the monopolies and mergers commission?

Guess PS3 owners really are thick, buying that many EA games.

Guess 360 owners are thick - putting up with a console that breaks every 25 minutes

Guess Wii owners are thick - falling for such a cynical ploy of a console in the first place

honestly can't remember the last time I bought an EA game, they're usually s**te..I'd be hard pushed to even download one of their demos , and they're free...quantity not quality as usual from EA, regardless of platform
leprechaun75 on 15 May '08
Its all the Chav PS3 owners buying every yearly update of s**te like FIFA Street and Need For Speed, its embarrasing to see tripe like that top the software charts every year.

It was also announced yesterday that EA have the biggest market share. 20% of games sold are EA - what is does show is that third parties are still struggling with nintendo consoles - the ds had less game sales than mobiles!!!

Again, another non starter in the humour department.

On a positive note, at least this means that EA will make more of an effort to develop first on ChavS3, rather than breakbox. And let's face it, EA now publish some massive games.

Lots of EA bashing I see, they've published some great games, my favourite being BF2, looking forward to bad company.
funkyjack on 15 May '08
Despite being a bit of a "PS fanboy" I dont tend to read this sort of thing.

MS will say 360 is doing best.

Sony will say PS is doing best.

Nintendo will say wii is doing best.

Yes, I realise that this data is from "Nextgen" but all companies have a favourite console, and will therefore believe the stats in there favour. There are so many contracting reports re sales that I can't imagine anyone really knows how its going

Not a single game there that i'd even concider buying!

It doesnt take talent to publish a good game that someone else has made. They couldnt make a decent innovative game if their life depended on it.
mintydog on 15 May '08
Wow, people must have discovered that there blu-ray player can play games!! haha.... Wink

I dont like the way EA are going around scoffing up all the developers, I like the idea of lots of small games developers creating new an unique IP's, that's exciting.

DS sales might be down due to everyone having an R4 chip. or maybe DS gamers don't have any decent EA games to buy. no wait, that makes it just like any other console. Embarassed

Probably because EA titles are the only titles that came out for the PS3 in the last year. Laughing

Another 360 V ps3 Rant Christ!!
condemmedman on 15 May '08
That puts paid to the argument that games released on the 360 make more money than those on PS3. With a smaller user base (catching 360 every month) that is quite impressie for the PS3.

Actually if you look at the figures published the most profitable hardware is the PSP followed by the mobile market then the Ps2. The mobile market has low development costs (1 person writing a Java game that sells for Ł3 to Ł6).
voodoo341 on 15 May '08
I think it's nice, seeing all those PS3 owners showing their love for all things EA. Laughing

Actually it shows that 360 and Wii owners have better taste in games than PS3 owners. Smile

As a PS3 boy I have to say :

Valve, see the profit you're missing out on buy not developing for the PS3.
Lazy bunch..

Yes I know EA did HL2 but surely Valve would make more money if they did it themselves?

P.S my google spellchecker is not working as I'm sure you've already noticed.

If EA are the biggest software producer then it's good news Sony cos it all boils down to money.on the one side both companies have been hit hard(about a billion on both sides lost to new hardwear, one been great the other just breaks.) Now softwear is where the money is so who's laughing now add to the fact each company are loaded as a game playing adult (31) I need 2 things product reliability and great games.Sadly great games are few and far between even GTA4 is not good, and other games have this short burn out and die system and the great one COD4 it never tires noobies to the slaughter Iron Maiden should write a song about it.
