Race Driver: Grid is boasting 12-player events with full car damage online, Codemasters has revealed. New multiplayer shots have also been released.
Taking out some of the long-windedness of having to find games online Codies says, "players can rapidly find the event they want and a slick voting system, matchmaking mechanism and seamless host migration".
There'll also be the usual rankings and leaderboards available online to record your fastest lap time, just in case you thought they'd forgot.
I hope that the handling in the finished game is better than the demo. Felt like I was driving a rocket-powered shopping trolley around a track. Shame because it looked promising.
I played the demo and thought it was really good. The problem was, is that it seemed to glitch online but i hope it was jus the demo and the final product will be good.
Haven't played the demo yet but to be honest I'd be amazed if Codies make a mess of the handling what with their pedigree in creating top-notch racers...as for the visuals, absolute quality and yet another to add to the ever increasing list of 360 "must haves!"

Exactly what i thought! loved the TOCA games and was really lloking forward to this, but the handling was s**te and the lighting's crap aswell. This demo makes me appreciate what an amazing job PD have done with GT5P
I think the handling on Grid is actually a little better than GT5 Prologue, it reminds me of the handling on Metropolis Street Racer; a mixture of realism and fun. I could see why some would think poorly of the game if they tried the American muscle car event first because that track is a little weak, but within five minutes I was bombing around the touring car track no problem.
On the subject of the online, I had no problems with lag, glitches or disconnects (which was refreshing on the PS3). Once I found my friend's game, I was able to stick with him, which is also better than GT5 Prologue. In fact, I'm a little disappointed that I bought Prologue at all, when this demo was free and I've nearly spent as much time on it.
Anyway, I realise that the 360 already has a couple of great racing games, but mine was dying so I sold it (I liked Forza for the damage ). Now I'll just have to make do with Grid, maybe the next Midnight Club and the full GT5 hopefully sometime before the London Olympics.
Demo was great - apart from the annoying people that ram you off the road or drive the wrong way in multiplayer. They should add the same system as GT5 where erratic cars "ghost" when driving the wrong way etc.
I played the demo and the handling is very strange and not what you would expect, because its very different from usual handling. Alot of focus is put on controlling your speed especially when you approach and pull off from coming out of a corner. It was really hard when coming out from a turn and not just pushing full down on the trigger, which if done will cause your car to sway out of control. Didn't like it my self, alot of concentration was required, and my finger was hurting by the end from having to release and push down on the trigger slowly.
Wow what a bunch of cry babies. Your finger hurt? MAN UP! Anyway just messing with you. If you're a GT fan then watch this awesome video on Youtube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cP1Q6sxNJoY&eurl=http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/page/2/
I've not had a chance to try the demo yet (I'm still in the USA) but from what these comments say it might be pretty good. I'll need to try it when I get home (back tomorrow), since it sounds a fairly good mix of sim and arcade.
And you know that if you floored a real RWD car coming out of a corner you would end up spinning out, right?
great demo, looks stunning maxed @ 1680x1050 and loads of AA etc on ultra settings. Surround sound with headphones sounds fantastic too, nothing like hearing the opposition creaping up on your right hand side behind you and you steer right until he's directly behind you and slam on the brakes and knock him out of the race, lmao
Online racing is a blast, regarding the handling the absolute only issue i have is with the BMW first gear being far too powerful( constant spin if you go off track and give any juice ), but manual gears sort that if you can get the hang of it
I haven't played any racing games for years. Too much 'pimp my ride' and tweaking and a million options to set before you can race. But this has got me back into racing.
It reminds me of the original Toca from 10 years ago (first game I ever bought and my favourite racing game). Realistic but still fun and exciting close races.
Its a but buggy on PC. It crashes a lot and the server browser needs to be better (no ping or server name info). I know its co-developed for console and needs to be dumbed down but I need to be able to choose between a server in the UK and one in Australia. Also why make us wait for everyone to press 'ready'? Hopefully this is just because its a demo.
Does anyone know how many tracks and cars their will be for touring cars? That's the only bit I'm interested in if I'm going to buy it.
Can't wait for this. Graphics and gameplay wise i was very impressed. Th only thing that i didn't like was all the idiots trying to ruin the race for everyone else. Hopefully they won't be in the full release as they won't want to buy it.

The only people buying this are those who have the skill of a 1 year old and those who enjoy crashing into things. Everybody else should just wait for GT5.
When I first got the demo I thought it was good and the more I played it the less I think that now. Furthermore, I went on a bit of a Forza binge at the weekend and suddenly thought to myself "This is how a racing game should feel".
In the demo, the cars don't seem to have any weight to them, they don't feel as you think they should. I think they've obviously aimed at the Burnout market which I think is a bit rich considering the series stems back from Toca touring cars, itself a sim.
I don't think I'll be getting this game now, simply because of how bad the demo was. I really want another racing game but this clearly isn't it.

I agree. 360 owners should really stick with Forza at it is a much more enjoyable and realistic experience. Either that or buy Burnout Paradise if you feel like smashing into things. GRID is not as good as either because it tries too hard to be both.
Loved the demo, particularly the camera work and sounds, the chunky presentation was also really slick.
This is a totally different game to GT5, and I for one found the handling really good, it feels like a proper arcade racer.
Can't wait for it tbh it's one of the few racers I've engaged with.
Definately, i think the handling is great now that i reconfigured it in game and you can modify the .xmls also for tighter handling. Looking forward to the release
I notice CVG state the release for 30 May is for PS3 and Xbox. As far as I can tell , this is the release date for PC as well. just hope there's no delays with it like there was with the demo.
As for the game, I can't say I'm completely sold as yet. It certainly looks good although the bloom effect has been overdone a bit. The handling seems ok except for the brakes but hopefully that will be adjustable to some degree ?
I'll definitely buy it as I need a new racer. i'm a big GTR2 fan and to be honest, as a driving experience, the demo hasn't come close. Still, I will buy this for the fun aspect and to race against my mates online and have a blast. That's what it's all about anyway.

Yes the release date is the same, its getting released in europe first then later in the US( at least we get the odd thing first )

Likewise, PS3 owners would do better to hold out for GT5 (I haven't played Prologue to work out how short it is) rather than play this. It's a shame as every game in this series from Toca touring cars (very fond memories of the first game on PSOne) up to Race Driver 3 has been excellent and felt like a proper racer.
