A few tidbits of information have sneaked out regarding the new Prince of Persia game, including the title and launch window.
The new game will be known as Prince of Persia: Heir Apparent, according to the latest issue of Game Informer. Without any other information, we can't even hazard a guess as to what that's supposed to mean, if it means anything at all.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will launch in its third fiscal quarter, meaning we can expect it between October and December. We're penciling it in on our Chrimbo 08 list already.
Indeed. Prince of Persia: The 4th Compulsory Subtitle
I'd prefer POP4 to be honest, but only if it's like the first game, POP: Sands of Time (much better subtitle) otherwise don't bother releasing it. I don't need any more 'main character gone goth/moody' posturing from my game sequels thank you very much.

I don't think "Heir Apparent" is all that goth/moody... The real problem is that it's pretty redundant with "Prince" already in the title.

That's not quite what I meant. 'Heir Apparent' isn't a particularly moody subtitle. I was referring to the direction of the 2nd and 3rd games in the new POP series. Sands of Time was packed full of charm and ace puzzles/platforming (kinda like Ico in a way - if that doesn't qualify as blasphemy...). However, the 2nd and 3rd games in the series had...bigger goatee beards, dark princes, more focus on the weak combat etc. etc.
I traded in the 2nd game within 24hrs after it turned out that it would be nothing like the first game in the series. I didn't even bother with the third game.
Fingers crossed for more charm and puzzles in the 4th iteration, although I'm not holding my breath.
there's a good article about this game in the latest issue of Edge. It looks really good and isn't going for that goth angle it moved towards previously.

You should probably have played it before commenting on it, as it was far more like the original than the second one. It had a few of its own problems but certainly was an enjoyable game.
The second PoP game was the best. the problem with it was that really hard women about 5 minutes into the game it took me ages to defeat her but worth it.
The second game wasn't quite so linear as the other two. With 1 and 3 you pretty much went in a straight line with some bends here and there ( maybe not quite so simply as that but it was horribly linear) number 2 didn't just make you go from a - b, allowed you to revisit the same areas in different time periods, some of the puzzles required you to do things in the past to make the future accessible. it made it feel more sandbox than what it really was.
i'm interested to see how the new mechanics work but i don't know too much about the cell shading. remember what people said about Zelda the windwaker?
with a much deeper script with all the time travelling changes and seeing yourself do things you'd already done. i wonder what they could do with that concept now, make it all realtime and dirrectly immitate the moves you did now wouldn't that be cool.

Ah, okay. Misunderstood your post. But I completely agree - SoT was a stone cold classic game... The other two, not so much. Or at all, for that matter.
I remember Ubisoft saying they're rebooting the franchise and making it more like the first game, which can only be good. I loved the first game. The other two wasn't as great but still fun in their own rights.

Looking forward to this.
I take the point, from what people are saying the 3rd game was a lot closer to Sands of Time than the 2nd game. Problem is, the series had already lost me by then and the reviews for the 3rd game didn't convince me to give it another try.
