The huge in-game XMB PS3 update that was pulled from PSN last week following technical issues will be re-released for download by Wednesday, CVG has been told.
According to customer support, firmware version 2.41, which should be clear of all errors, will out "midweek", although Sony is yet to make an official announcement to confirm that.
good, i got the update when it was first released and iv been scared of my ps3 since.... and i hope we got some games with trophies now!!!! COME ON!!!!!
Hopefully this'll fix any problems people have been having, i've not updated yet but im actually glad I didn't. My 60gb launch PS3 is rare these days so I'd hate to have mine bricked and get a 40gb one back.
I don't understand what the big fuss is about, I got the update and haven't had any problems and i've been using my PS3 everyday since I got the update on the wednesday. My PS3 is a 60 gb version if anyones wondering.

I installed the original update with no probs and was just wondering if the trophys were disabled until the new update this wednesday, I've completed a quite few levels on super stardust and pixeljunk monsters and got nothing so far.
I have a 60gb running fine BUT but when i play online with grid or gta4 as it loads into the game after starting multiplayer I get a hard lock and and have to switch my ps3 off...
hope this gets sorted! in the update as i was ok before
i have a strange feeling that pretty much all the broken consoles are the 40gb versions, and i hope it is out thursday morning latest as i go on holiday on thursday!

This may seem like a stupid question, but, have you downloaded the update for Super Stardust which adds the trophies to unlock? I couldnt unlock them either then i found out i had to update the game.

agreed, i was wondering myself if its on certain PS3 models, i have the 60GB launch model and most of my PSN friends have the same model and have no problems. the only error i experienced though is that the in game XMB froze while trying to read a message, its only happened twice and both times were played CoD4 online, i mainly read them when im in the lobby instead during play.
also, i cant remember i said this on here but, out of all of my PS3 games, only Call of Duty 3 doesn't support the in game XMB.
about super stardust HD, i got the game the day 2.40 was released along with the expansion pack, when i played it, it said there was a update, version 4.

Doh! no I didn't, I stupidly assumed Sony wouldn't try and milk all they can out of the consumer by way of trophys! Thanks for that anyway. By the way mines a 40Gb sku, so the post earlier suggesting that it was only 4ogb PS3s bricking is cleared up!

Pixeljunk Monsters does not support trophys, Pixel Junk Eden will do when its released. As for Super Stardust, you need to download version 4 patch to enable trophys, which, unfortunately, was also pulled just after 2.4.
I'm running 2.4 firmware and SSHD version 4, and so far have 8 trophys. Just waiting for Pain and Warhawk patch 1.5 now.
HUZZAH! i found a game that plays ur own HDD music!
the bad news is it didnt even need this shoddy update, PA!N has its own jukebox option now after a new update (i havent played it in months so bare with me!)
not really relivent at this time i know but its wound me up to have all these great games and not even warhawk lets me play my music. i had to vent sumwhere
anyone else found any other games you can play music with?
So this means that all of us who managed to update to v2.40 successfully will now have to risk doing yet ANOTHER unnecessary update and potentially bugger up our currently working machines just to get v2.41?
I hope so too cos 2.40 has totally buggered up my Metal Gear game and is my first disappointment with Sony. These technical errors didn't occur whilst Phil Harrison was Boss. Come on Sony test you bloody things before they're released!
See, i downloaded the firmware the morning it was released and its all fine and stuff but except for the remote play.... the remote play seems to disconnects after a few minutes which p**ses me f**kin off... it didnt used to do this before the 2.40 firmware so i can only guess its coz of this reason. Can anyone help or am doomed with this 'gift and the curse'?! --------------------------

I was one of the unlucky ones whos PS3 got buggered by 2.40. My PS3 is an original 60GB launch machine. I was able to the fix the problem by connecting the PS3 hard drive to my PC and formatting the drive, which of course meant losing all my game saves. I wonder if the 2.41 firmware can "unbrick" machines?

I wonder if 2.41 could 'unbrick' machines WITHOUT wiping their harddrive, for those unfortunate enough to lack the ability to back up their saves...
I swear, if this bricks my 60gb and they even try and give me a 40gb, heads will roll. and if they break it, they've bought it. (425 quid!)
They can't do that - its tantamount to robbery. If they collect a 60gig console from you, they must return a 60 gig console. After all, that's what you paid for. You may get an upgrade, if you're extremely lucky, but they can't do it the other way round.
Likewise, MS can't collect an Elite 360 from you and deliver an Arcade one in return.
And if they try, I recommend getting some consumer advice.

well for those who had lost their 60gig's i hope your right! its just the 60gb is outa production....i guess we have to wait and hope sony can sort this little mess out. its going to be a while before some people put their trust in firmware again....

I'm sure someone on here has already had a 60Gb replaced by Sony with a 40Gb - can't for the life of me remember who it was, but they weren't too bothered by all accounts. Problem is, with the 60Gb being out of production, how can they replace an existing 60Gb machine with anything other than a current model (40Gb). The only way would be for them to use a reconditioned one, and if the PS3 is as reliable as everyone makes out, how many of those will there be?!
Probably not what you wanted to hear, but hey, you could always ask Sony to give you one of the new PS2 mk4s...
Its got to have just been a dodgy batch of ps3's or maybe they changed one of the parts or something. I have a release 60gb but upgraded to 250gb and have never had any problems with it. Not noticed anything with 2.40. I hope 2.41 goes well for everybody. Im sure it will

I don't have a PS3, just wondered if now that the 60GB is out of production, do any PS3s (European, Japanese or US) currently being maufactured have backwards compatibility?

Is there region locking on PS3?
the american ps3 (80 gig) still has backwards compat' as does the older euro models (such as mine!)...but limited...40 gigs in europe only support ps1 titles..and no there is no region locking on the ps3
on a side note...it is now ready to download (2.41)
to ricflair, i think the 60GB is out of production, you might get a pre-owned console. i dont think any of the new models has PS2 backwards compatibility, also the games are region free, so you can play US/JAP games on a EU PS3, but some games might be region locked, depends on the developer has put the lock in or not. i think blu-ray movies are region locked.
That seems completely stupid. My friend is coming over from NYC at christmas and I had thought about asking him to bring one over (assuming a few more exclusives were released or on the horizon).
I'd hate to have an american ps3, then only to find a game I bought over here wouldn't work because the developer put in a region lock. Could always get an import version I suppose...
i did the 2.40 update before it was taken off, and mines gone proper crap, can just about get it to come on line as soon as i start a game it crashes and the only way to turn it off is by the power switch on the back of the thing, i got 40 gig ps3
I GOT 60GB AND NEW 240 UPDATE AND ITS CRASHED 3 F...ING TIMES BETTER NOT BRAKE OR THERE WILL BE HELL ON
why, what are you going to do? get your mum to pick you up from school so you can go down there and wet your pants in public on the reception? or simply send them a stern letter written in you best excuse for what you call coherent language?
