Microsoft's understandably keen to shout about the Xbox 360's recent success in Europe, where the console's installed base has just topped seven million.
In a new show of chest beating the company's issued a press release designed "to highlight the momentum the Xbox 360 is experiencing", in which it repeats claims that the system's heavily outselling rival PS3.
"As we enter our busiest selling season of the year Xbox 360 sales are not only exceeding our aggressive forecasts, but we are selling more consoles and games across the world than ever before," Microsoft said.
"We are winning in Europe, outselling PS3 in the region and currently experiencing the strongest sales we have ever seen in Europe, and since our price drop... Xbox 360 sales have increased by five times, showing that European consumers are flocking to Xbox 360.
"For the first time, Xbox 360 is leading Southern Europe, outselling PS3 for three weeks in Spain and by 2:1 in Italy," the company added.
MS also reiterated the fact that the 360 outsold PS3 by almost 2:1 in October in the States.
It's fair to say that the now cheap as chips 360 looks set to win the Christmas battle with PS3, but the prospects for Sony's console certainly aren't dim in the long term, as these rumours concerning a PS3 price cut from March 2009 and new God of War and Uncharted games show.

The much vaunted hardware deficiences of the 360 have been well documented and Microsoft have done the right thing and extended the warranted to ensure that all the 360 owners out there can be confident that if they are unlucky enough to suffer a system failure, Microsoft has got your back!!
And talking of system failures & owning up...let's not get started on the PS3 firmware debacle again...Sony denied there was any problem at all until (and thanks to the Internet!) they were forced to pull the update after bricking a whole load of consoles...the disingenuous Jap t**ts!!
Haven't got a clue what "obligement" is but those overpriced Blu-Ray movies must look lovely on your black & white portable!!

I have nothing against microsoft the first xbox was a fantastic machine far better than the PS2, but this generation of xbox is just lazy in every way and created fast for no other reason but to take sonys market, I would like the next xbox to be as revolutionary as the first, not just spit it out to be first across the finish line.

The games industry has the most out-spoken, nonsense spouting people of any industry i know. Be it console manufacturers, publishers or developers so many of them speak so much s**t its unreal.

Well i'll start it off by saying that they arent winning cos Nintendo are.
People can talk about different markets all they want, but it is the same industry so ignoring them is pointless. It would be like Chelsea saying they won the league last season and not counting Man Utd as a competitor because they are playing a different brand of football.
Im glad the Xbox360 is doing well simply because its probably the best console this generation to be honest so fair play to them. EVERYONE is doing pretty well this time though so its not really relevent if someone is slightly ahead to be honest anyway.

Anyway, I can't help thinking the momentum the 360 has gained may be hampered somewhat by Chris Moyles spending a fairly large part of this mornings' breakfast show complaining that he'd got RROD'd (5th time no less) the night before just 5 minutes into firing up COD5.
I mean, I know not everyone in the world listens to that show and its hardly gonna drive MS out business, but there's about 7 million people that listen in each morning. I bet there were plenty of prospective 360 buyers listening that weren't aware of just how prevalent the rrod issue has been. If even half of that 7 million people pass the information onto friends and relatives who're thinking of buying 360's this Christmas well... let's just say I bet MS were spitting fire when they heard about the Moyles' rant this morning.

Microsoft has toppled the hard drive rules, they have brought on line gaming to an un-matched value. and brought development costs down to an all time low. they have also brought back bedroom developers through XNA and Xbox Live Arcade. its no wonder that developers and gamers alike love what Microsoft are doing for the industry. we did say this market was Sony's to lose, and they have lost massive market share which they will never get back. its better because the gaming world is more equal now. gamers have more choice.
and by a considerable margin - didn't PES 2009 also lead on PS3? Yes. The fact that Tomb Raider comes with exclusive DLC on 360 yet still outsells on PS3 I think paints a rather worrying picture for MS as regards exclusive DLC.
i don't think the exclusive dlc on the 360 was very well publisised. I'm guessing alot of people think that tomb raider is more of a PS game. If you'd played all the others on sony's pad why change?

You can make things like this mean anything you want. You *could* say that the PS3 is more prevalent than the 360. Or, you *could* say that 360 owners have many more, and much better games to choose from, and so overlooked Tomb Raider. Or, you *could* say that Tomb Raider is largely seen as a Playstation title.
Like I said, anything you want. Sales figures are meaningless to all but those that make cash from em.

So long as everyone also accepts that's why the PS2 came out top last-gen...
The C64 was much more reliable than the Spectrum (the Speccy had quite a history of machines which would crash due to faulty memory chips being sold, and breaking down). The C64 was technically superior, offering more colours, better sound, and hardware sprites. It had a few cool games like Uridium well before the Speccy though.
However, an awful lot of Spectrum games played better and were often superior in other ways simply by being coded better due to having a simpler architecture, which included a less 'cutting edge' CPU.
There's possibly a dig at LordVonPS3's belief that a (questionable in my opinion) technical advantage for the PS3 makes up for it's other deficiencies, and his favouritism of the Speccy over the C64 being a touch contradictory buried in there. If noticed it, it was purely coincidental.
In my very long years of geekdom I've had A 'good old' white zx80 (god knows what it did?) A zx81... Oh those later days when it got Jet Pack A 16 k spectrum (Then got the ram pack - which was held on by celotape for 48K... Oh the memories!!!) A C64... The disk drive and blocky RPGs...ahhhh An Atari ST (Now we're getting serious) ... A great time... ELITE! A mega drive... Hmmm - Hazy days a bit like fast food suddenly Saturn!!! Hurrah!!! oh... never mind (I'm getting hazy now but think...) Playstation - cor a new boy... but soon to be king Dreamcast then Playstation 2 (amazing times) ...
And now I have a 360 and call me fanboy but no experience, game or memories has touched the time of my gaming life this machine has given me... I care not one toss who or what microsoft are... They have delivered... They desearve to do well with this machine - warts and all.
The king is dead... long live the pretender of the week...
The only reason the xbox is winning is the same reason why Boxters outsell 911's its cheaper you are not getting a better machine. Its a shame that the richest company on the face of the planet could have created something truly grate but decided to spend no time on R&D throw together a bunch of unreliable old technology, where as sony did not.
In short all your doing when you buy an xbox is showing the world your against innovation in consoles and not only that going with the cheaper option your stating your life hasn't turned out quite as well as you would have liked.
What console did exxonmobil create then? Must've missed that.
And the 360 is no more for/against innovation than the PS3, what are you thinking man?? Is the PS3 a better made product? Yes. Is is quieter? Yes. Are any of these more innovative than the 360? No.
As much as people hate to admit it, the only company who have really gone for something new this gen is Nintendo. And seemingly 99% of people on these forums hate them for it now. That's what innovating does for your fan base!

Hmm, so the unified shader architecture in the 360's GPU was ATI's 'old technology' was it? The Tri-core PowerPC CPU was IBM's 'old technology' was it?
I think you'll find both were developed for the 360 and were the first iteration of either technology.
The fact that the CPU is programmed in a more traditional way and isn't some exercise in transistor counts, operation counts and "potential" performance must mean it's rubbish..
