Sony UK targets similar Killzone 2 date

US launch date confirmed, along with a rough timeframe for Europe
Sony will release Guerrilla Games' highly anticipated FPS Killzone 2 on February 27 2009 in the States.

We've been on the phone to Sony UK this morning who told us that it's "targeting a similar timeframe in the PAL regions", with specific launch dates to be "communicated at a later date".

A February 17 release date had previously been rumoured, but at least now we know it'll definitely be out in the next three months, in the States at least.

Now all the game has to do is justify the hype, which will be no easy task.

The news was first reported on TV show X-Play, which also revealed two new weapons, the Bolt Gun and the Flamethrower, which can be seen in a video here.

Hmm... That makes the February 17th UK release unlikely then - I'd be very surprised if it came out over here 10 days before the US.
Maybe they will be going head to head with Resi 5...

What a surpise, i didnt have a clue the game would be released then Rolling EyesLaughing

To be honest, i wasnt anticipating this at all really, great graphics and all but i feel it could be very linear, but from the beta i must say it is very good

Correct me if I'm wrong here but aren't Guerilla Games a Brittish developer?

So we should get it same time, if not a fraction earlier than our american cousins.

Anywho evertime I see new info on this game I get more and more excited about playing it.

I hope a Feb 2nd release date will happen.

As you wish, you need corrected. They're actually a Dutch company based in Amsterdamn. The game is being developed in the States. If you watch the video that's why the developer has an American accent.

C&VG, the only guys creating hype for games in general are sites like yours! You build them up and then kick them down, just like the newspapers do to celebrities. If sites didn't create the hype to begin with, then we wouldn't get so excited in the first place!

As far as I can tell, Killzone 2 looks like a technological masterpiece. Whether it can back that up with a good campaign is yet unknown. My friends tell me that the beta is brilliant though.

Fingers crossed.

Well you learn something new every day it seems.

What ever part of the world they reside in doesn't change that this is possibly my most anticipated game right now

My PS3 really needs a decent shooter, since I have CoD4 on 360 already. I'm hoping that this will be the one.

Need to get a headset though. A multiplayer shooter would feel weird without screaming Americans in my ear now Smile

I think Sony need to make sure that they release KZ to the World at roughly the same time, when it is one of your Marqui titles it helps to build up the buzz.

I think that might have been a contributing factor to LBP and Resistance not setting the world on fire with their sales, not the only reason but maybe a valid one?

Still, I love my shooters so hears hoping KZ2 does live up to the hype.

The beta is a head turner no doubt about that. This game has been polished, polished and polished again. My concern is they haven't shown much of the single player game yet. I know there's a village section in it. One of the developers said in a forum that the Helgan home world is a beautiful planet and you would see that in the single player game. I'm just wondering why we haven't seen any of it yet. Besides that inFamous is still my number one incoming game for the PS3.

If all of the mechanics are in place to make the multiplayer work well, there's no reason the campaign shouldn't be good as well. The story being good is just a bonus.

Besides, I'm always in shooters more for the multiplayer than the campaign, since the single-player in always over so quickly.

I'll be surprised if it's not the UK date.

The 27th is friday, america gets it's games on tuesdays. The only other game I know of that came out on a friday was gears 2,and that was world wide.

If not then it's the 6th of march.

Did C&VG get the game? not seen your preview.

I know some are getting a newer version with updated graphics from what we've just seen, and IGN said when they went to amsterdam to see it there was a better build with all the lighting properly implemented.

Best thing IGN said is that because most (all) of the graphics are done by the cell,at the most hectic insane point of the game it just about peaks at 60% of the processor power.
that's insane, they created what they wanted and have just under half power left at the games
most insane part, this games f%^&ing crazy.

C&VG write a story about a game? Are you mad. Sales stories FTW!!!

Don't mean to be a pedant old voodoo son, but they are indeed a Dutch developer based in Amsterdam, but it is not being developed in the states, it is being developed in Amsterdam (the american guy in the video is Kyle Schubel, the managing producer of international software development. (SCEA)

just in case anyone was interested Wink
