Epic Mickey details arise

First info on Warren Spector's Wii-exclusive emerges
Following a batch of concept art said to be from an unannounced Disney game dubbed 'Epic Mickey' comes a few details from a source who wishes to remain anonymous. When don't they?

Details were originally spotted by Superannuation who found out that a development and concept artist listed the project - "Epic Mickey" (Wii Video Game) - on his online CV and pointed to some concept art (which you can find on this page) said to be from the game.

CVG has learnt that the game is indeed called Epic Mickey and it's being worked on by ex-Deus Ex man, Warren Spector at his Junction Point studio. But the internet already seems to know that.

We've since been told that it's a Wii-exclusive where you paint your way through levels using the Wii Remote. This 'painting your way' involves you drawing, etching and erasing whole or parts of levels as you go. Capcom's Okami immediately springs to mind but we've not got enough info to go on to make any kind of informed judgement.

As for the story, we've also been told that it'll be based around very old and/or forgotten Disney characters who are out to get their revenge on Mickey, presumably because they're jealous of all his fame and fortune. We Googled 'early Disney characters' and found that Oswald the Lucky Rabbit returned a lot of hits. A bit before even CVG's time all that though.

So not much to go on. We've contacted Disney about the extra info but don't really expect any confirmation as the game's still unannounced. But looking at the concept art, we're quietly excited already. There's plenty more guesswork to be found on NeoGaf.

I am not really a fan of the old Disney tbh. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt though as Mr Spector is working on it... and that we have barely any info on the game itself.

I'll keep one eye on it at least.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit ain't Disney. That is, he was created by Walt, sold to (I believe) RKO or maybe Universal (or, at least, Universal gained ownership at some point if I recall), then -- just recently -- the Walt Disney Co. purchased the rights back. Well, no, they didn’t really purchase them. But Uni and Dis were arguing over the rights to something or other, and Disney said “We’ll give you THIS, if you give us THAT and Oswald.” And Universal (or whatever company it was) agreed.

We might see Oswald, but we'll probably see Clarabell cow, some characters created by Carl Barks for his Scrooge comics, and, perhaps even more likely, some fogotten villains. (Would love to see the Phantom Blot.)

@Kplan

Sorry to say it, but Oswald IS Disney... Disney released Oswald The Lucky Rabbit shorts from 1927 to 1928 and in that 2 years they released 26 shorts. Now, these were made by Disney FOR Universal. After 1928 Oswald was under complete Universal control, and the original Oswald character was evolved and adapted into Mickey Mouse. Universal eventually changed Oswald so much he was not recognizable as the same character

I could see him being in this game... I mean, he was basically discarded for Mickey. undefined
