The number of Left 4 Dead 2 pre-orders are "four times" that of the original game, Valve has revealed.
Speaking to CVG in a recent interview, Chet Faliszek said he thinks the gaming public is finally excited for the sequel after the initial post-E3 ruckus.
"As we get closer to launch we see the reaction to the demo, pre-orders are four times what Left 4 Dead 1 was, people's excitement, the boycott itself and how it's changed... I think people are just excited now," he said.
As for the infamous boycott, Faliszek says Valve always planned to continue updating the original Left 4 Dead. "One of the weird things at E3 was we knew we weren't showing the complete package, we knew there was a whole bunch of stuff we were holding back but we wanted to show something," he said.

While the boycott didn't affect Valve's plans for the games, the project lead says it did change "how we talked about it and how we talked with everybody".
"Honestly I made the joke and it's true: If you put $20 in a box and charge $10 for it someone would complain you didn't put $50 in a box. Not to say some of the concerns raised aren't valid, but you're always going to have some kind of upset and that's not how we work. We work at looking at the project and trying to get it out."
loved the demo. So much more polish than the original. Love how theres now different types of regular zombies now aswell (bulletproof swat zombies.) The animations and reactions of the zombies are so much better aswell, especially when you set them on fire, I even loved the new animations when you shove zombies away, which I also noticed leaves the zombies unable to move for alot longer than the original game allowed you to. It just feels far superior in pretty much everyway.
I wasn't sure about this one, but not having played the first one, I figured that if I was going to pick one of them up it would most certainly be the second one after the listed changes/improvements (not to mention the likelihood of far more online sessions with the new game). My decision was most certainly helped along by the bombshell that IW dropped on the PC crowd in regards to "MW2". Perhaps I'm not the only one who made a quick pre-order switch from "MW2" to "L4D2". "BBC2" looks promising as well.
Apropos melee weapons in "L4D2"! I have only experimented with the guitar and the machete so far. The frying pan looks hilarious, IMO, yet the machete is brutally effective so I like using it. It's faster than the guitar and just as lethal, if not more so. I get a thrill out of diving into a writhing crowd of zombies with the machete and creating a meat smoothie. Alternatively, running away , then turning around and waiting for the zombies to come to me piecemeal for some slashing action is certainly also engaging!
P.S. I do enjoy the "pop"/"crack" sound of gunfire though, so there will be no skimping on controlled bursts of fire as well! Happy days!
Loving the L4D2 demo but when in the Hell are we going to hear about Half Life Episode 3, did Valve not say that they would have something for us before the end of the year?
I've never even played Left 4 Dead with other people and I still love it. I don't think the new characters are as good as the last, besides Coach. But I like the daylight setting and new infected. Already payed for this can't wait.

Nick, you havent played with any real people just the AI?
Get yourself onto Live and play with some real Gamers, the Fun increases 10 fold! Nothing beats hearing your Team mate screaming for help and you then having to run about daft trying to find them.

Stone is right. Get on line, seriously! When I first had it, I was playing it for about 5 weeks offline whilst I waited for my BT line and internet to be sorted out. Once I got online, I enjoyed it so much more (even though it was great offline, too).

Definately. i have to say that I am starting to get a bit frustrated with the whole lack of news about episode 3. Come on Valve, just a few bits of info or a screen shot!
I must be one of the few who was massively underwhelmed with the demo. Actually that's an understatement.
As always I played this on the hardest difficulty, and have seen enough to know I won't be buying this.
I hate that the pistol rate of fire is reduced making them pretty useless, baring in mind Valve are still stuck in the 90s gaming mode whereby it takes several bullets to down an enemy. Headshots would be all well and good, but the lag, constant delays, and zombies that 'slid' across the ground rather than ran, made it near impossible with the pistol.
Not impressed with the acid. Avoiding the boomer's spew in the first game was hard enough, now this actually does a ton of damage. Armoured zombies? Don't the regular zombies already need enough shots to down? In one game I saw a hunter jump over the head of three of us taking all of us out in one go!
As most gamers in the original struggled with the concept of co-op on hardcore I can imagine many more will struggle with this. Still, it'll mean the gamerscore collectors will have to stick around longer and perhaps people will learn to communicate and work better in groups. As someone who seriously dislikes Valve I'm more than happy this demo was disappointing.
So Basically Jensonjet, what you are trying to tell us all is that you have a rubbish internet connection and you are s**t at the game!!!
Upgrade your broadband, stop bitching and learn to play the game, Also as a tip might I suggest switching the difficulty down to easy from "your usual" expert. You utter k**b!!
Jenson, did we play the same demo? It sure doesn't sound like it! Granted, I played it on "Normal" difficulty and I found it to be a breeze. The gun(s) fire quickly and the zombies can be killed with one shot depending on where you hit them and/or the caliber of the weapon you are using. The armored police officer zombie has a weak spot: his back. Shoot or melee him from behind and he folds like a wet house of cards.
Feel free to dislike Valve; I fully support your prerogative to be up in arms over a publisher/developer and if you don't feel this game lives up to your standards then I encourage you to deny Valve your money since it's one of the few direct ways the customer can "vote" in private business decisions. Personally I have this game pre-ordered and I look forward to receiving what seems to me to be a game with lots of fun potential at a decent price.

Wow.
I thought the demo plays beautifully with just the right balence.
It sounds like you couldn't hit a cows bottom with a banjo if you're struggling to put normal infected down, and if you are finding it impossible to not be hit by boomer bile, you're not playing it right.
One of the strange things about L4D when it first came out, was realising that it may be a FPS, but using standard FPS tactics like charging around and circle strafing just doesn't work.
The boomers, like all special infected, have distinct audio cues. This means it should be a rarity to get spewed on.
What's with the Valve hatred? I think they're probably the finest developers around. Not only do they produce awesome games, but look at the level of support they've given to titles such as team fortress 2.
Orange box has to go down as one of the biggest game bargains of all time
Played this a little last night - thought it was okay, however I couldn't really get into it at first; but went back to it later and enjoyed it a lot more. Still not sure if I can see how this justifies a completely new Ł40 quid purchase for me but, perhaps that will come in the full game. Right now I don't know why they couldn't just add the melee weapons, new characters, levels and weapons in a patch... not sure if it'll be a day one purchase. I enjoyed Left 4 Dead, but I can see myself having the same problems with 2 that I did with 1, and that's just not being bothered to deal with the whingers and moaners on Xbox Live if you don't play exactly how they want.
